Library Statistics

The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners collects and analyzes data about public libraries across the Commonwealth.

In addition, the MBLC participates in the Library Statistics Program through the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the State Library Agency Survey, and the Academic Library Survey through the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).

Public Library Data -  Financial, demographic, personnel, and service data reported annually by public libraries through the online data mangement system, LibPAS, using the ARIS and Financial Report input forms.  Submission of this data is required for eligiblity in the State Aid to Public Libraries program.

Academic Library Data - Reported every 2 years by Massachusetts Academic Libraries on the Academic Library Survey funded by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).

Library Network Data - Statistical view of the nine automated networks in Massachusetts. Includes  membership lists and maps, operating and capital income and expenditures, E-rate income, staffing levels, numbers of materials, resource sharing activity, and other services.
