Field Descriptions for Peer Group Medians Statistics File 2008

Tabs in the spreadsheet follow the order of the printed report. Following are the descriptions for column headings in the three tabs that itemize data for each municipality.

Field Name	Definition
Townsname	Name of the Municipality. In the case of the Hamilton-Wenham joint library, the name of the library is used.

Pop & EQV per capita tab

2007 population estimate for the municipality.

EQVpercap

EQV Per Capita - 2008 equalized valuation divided by the municipality's population. EQV's are the determinations of the fair cash value of all property in each municipality that is subject to local taxation. The Commissioner of Revenue, in accordance with Chapter 58, Section 10C, is charged with the responsibility of biannually determining an equalized valuation for all municipalities. For the joint Hamilton-Wenham Public Library, the total EQV & population of both communities is used.

EQVgroup	EQV Group - Municipalities are divided into five approximately equal groups by their EQV per capita. 1 = Less than $100,827 2 = $100,827 - $128,960 3 = $129,058 - 160,837 4 = $161,392 - $236,475 5 = $236,985 and over

Hoursopen	Hours Open - The sum of the annual hours the main and branch library/libraries and bookmobile(s) were open during FY2008.
Dircircpc	Direct Circulation - Total circulation of all library materials of all types, including renewals during FY2008.
Refpc	Reference Transaction - an information contact which involves the knowledge, use, recommendations, interpretation or instruction in the use of one or more information sources by a member of the library staff.
Attpc	Attendance per capita - Also called library visits, the total number of persons entering the library for whatever purpose during FY2008.
Elecsubs	Electronic Subscriptions - Number of subscriptions, as of 6/30/08, for periodicals, newspapers and monographic series in electronic format (CD-ROM and online), including those received through an automated network.
Programs	Number of library sponsored programs held for adults/young adults and children during FY2008.
Mlsfte	MLS FTE - Full-time equivalency for all positions paid from the library budget with a Master's from an ALA accredited program and reported in the Library Director, Assistant Director, Senior Librarian, Branch Librarian and all the Staff Librarian(Reference, Children's etc) position classifications.
Compaccint	Computers Accessing the Internet - Number of Internet terminals for patron use as of June 30, 2008.
Toepc	Total Operating Expenditures - The sum of the operating expenditures from the library's budget for personnel (salaries and benefits), library materials, and other operating expenditures (e.g., building maintenance, energy and utilities, network membership, supplies, etc.) during FY2008.
Tmepc	Total Materials Expenditures - The sum of operating expenditures from the library's budget for library materials including print, non print, and electronic resources during FY2008.
Tamipc	Total Appropriated Municipal Income - The sum of the municipal revenue sources appropriated to the library for operating during FY2008. Excludes State Aid to Public Libraries monies.
