MBLC Requirements for Long Range Plans

(From MBLC Library Services and Technology Act, Massachusetts Long-Range Plan, 1998-2002).

For the purposes of applying for any grant which is administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (the exception being State Aid to Public Libraries grants), a library is required to complete a formal, multiyear (3 to 5 years) plan with annual action plan updates. Several planning approaches are available to libraries. While no specific method is required, Planning for Results: A Public Library Transformation Process (Chicago: American Library Association, 1998) offers an updated, relatively simple and comprehensive methodology. These materials as well as consulting services on the subject of long range planning are available through your regional library system and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

This Web site, and other programs of the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, is funded in part with funds from the
Institute of Museum and Library Services, a federal agency that fosters innovation, leadership and a lifetime of learning.
