Check Out the Commonwealth Catalog

Search statewide for books CDs DVDs and more

NOVEMBER 12, 2015 - The Commonwealth Catalog (ComCat) is now live. Massachusetts libraries are wrapping up the process of moving from the Statewide Virtual Catalog to ComCat.

ComCat provides all the same convenience and features as the old Statewide Virtual Catalog but with a much more modern and easy-to-use interface, including book jacket images and improved search options. Users can easily select their preferred format for an item when multiple choices are available. Hardcover, paperback, large print, audiobooks, and DVDs will appear together in search results.

For promotional materials and graphics for online and print use, visit the ComCat toolkit page. Libraries will have a chance to reorder print materials in spring 2016.

If your library is in one of these networks, your patrons should now use ComCat to request library materials beyond what's in your catalog:

You also may explore ComCat as a guest.

As of early November 2015, libraries in the C/W MARS network will be on ComCat within a few weeks. MassCat libraries will go live in the near future as well.

Note: The old Statewide Virtual Catalog is closed for new requesting as of November 12, 2015. Library staff will be able to log in to the Virtual Catalog system until December 18th, giving them about a month to finish outstanding any requests.

In late December 2015, the Virtual Catalog Helpdesk will produce a report of all requests that were still active in the system at the time of shutdown. This report will be emailed and published out to all VC libraries. Any requests that need to be tracked down or returned after December 18th will be found in this report.
