About the Program

The Emergency Assistance Program provides assistance to libraries, archives, historical societies, and other repositories in the event of an emergency, in addition to providing disaster preparedness training in advance. This program is designed to aid libraries in the event of an emergency through four program components:

  1. Disaster Preparedness Training
  2. Clean-Up Kits and Storage Boxes for smaller emergencies
  3. Technical Assistance from the Regional Library System and Board staff members, and Emergency On-Call Professional Assessment Services for public libraries only
  4. On-Call Disaster Recovery Service for Freezing and Drying Library Collections damaged in fires or floods for public libraries only.
This Web site, and other programs of the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, is funded in part with funds from the
Institute of Museum and Library Services, a federal agency that fosters innovation, leadership and a lifetime of learning.
