Gates Opportunity Online Broadband Grants Program

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is working with the Massachusetts Board of Library  Commissioners to improve the availability of broadband Internet access to public libraries in western and parts of central Massachusetts.

In concert with the Massachusetts Library System and the C/W Mars network, the Board of Library Commssioners will support the rolloout of fiber connectivity to approximately 120 public library outlets the Massachusetts Broadband Institute's MassBroadband 123 project.  Over the course of this 30-month project, MBLC, MLS and C/W Mars will assess the technology needs of each library, and provide telecommunications and wifi equipment,  training and technology assessment tools  to ensure that libraries can take advantage of the new connectivity.
