Brian Lies to visit libraries
Massachusetts author and illustrator Brian Lies will be visiting public libraries across the Commonwealth to encourage participation in state-supported summer reading programs offered at public libraries. Mr. Lies, whose books include Bats at the Beach, Bats at the Library, and Hamlet and the Magnificent Sandcastle, is the illustrator of the 2012 Collaborative Summer Library Program, Dream Big—READ! Massachusetts is one of 49 states using the program and his illustrations can be seen in libraries across the country.
Summer reading programs at public libraries help students avoid the “summer slide” and prepare them for the academic year ahead. Last year over 300,000 children, teens and adults participated in summer reading programming across the state. The Massachusetts Library Summer Program is sponsored by local libraries, the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
