Board Welcomes Erin Williams Hart

The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC) is pleased to welcome Erin Williams Hart as Trustee/Friends Information Specialist. “Erin has the qualities we hoped for. She will be an asset and support to trustees and Friends as they work to strengthen our libraries, “said Cindy Roach, Head of Library Advisory and Development and Government Liaison at the MBLC.

Commissioners welcomed Erin at their April 3, 2014 Board meeting, “We’re pleased to have you join the staff at the MBLC. The work library Friends and trustees do is so vital to our libraries-- your experience and background will certainly benefit them, “said MBLC Chair Frank Murphy.

Most recently Erin was a Reference Information Librarian at Brookline Public Library where she frequently collaborated with colleagues to enhance library services and excelled at helping patrons access the information they needed.  At the MBLC, Erin’s reference skills will be put to use in assisting public library trustees, librarians, municipal officials, and Friends organizations in matters relating to the administration, maintenance, and development of public library services in Massachusetts.

Ms. Williams Hart also served as the Staff Liaison to the Friends of the Brookline Public Library.  “Working with the Friends was one of the highlights of my time at Brookline, “she said.  Erin also worked closely with library trustees on various initiatives including Brookline’s town-wide reading program. Having worked with both Friends and trustees, Erin understands the different purposes that each serves, and that each is important to the overall operation of the library.

“I am so excited to join the staff at the MBLC and to have this opportunity to serve and support public libraries across the Commonwealth; and especially to serve library trustees and Friends groups who play such unique and integral roles in the healthy functioning of a library,” said Ms. Williams Hart

A Wisconsin native, Erin moved to Massachusetts to pursue her undergraduate degree at Boston University. In 2008, she received her Masters of Science in Library and Information Science from Syracuse University.
