Senate Budget Increases Funding

The Senate Ways and Means Committee released its budget with an increase of more than $3 million to State Aid to Public Libraries (account 7000-9501), restoring the funding for this program to its high of $9,989,844. Technology and Resource Sharing (account 7000-9506) also increased to $2,867,823. This is an increase of $938,585 over the FY2014 budget of $1,929,238. Both State Aid and Technology and Resource Sharing funding are priorities in the MBLC's FY2015 Legislative Agenda.

The full Senate will debate amendments and will vote on the budget Wednesday, May 21, 2014. The Massachusetts Library Association will continue efforts to maintain these funding levels. After the Senate budget is passed, any line items that are funded differently in the House and Senate budgets will go to Conference Committee.

The Board of Library Commissioners (mass.gov/mblc) is the agency of state government with the statutory authority and responsibility to organize, develop, coordinate and improve library services throughout the Commonwealth.
