{"id":1969,"date":"2022-07-12T15:26:05","date_gmt":"2022-07-12T15:26:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mblc.state.ma.us\/costepma\/?p=1969"},"modified":"2022-07-12T15:33:01","modified_gmt":"2022-07-12T15:33:01","slug":"hurricane-preparedness-week-in-massachusetts-july-10-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mblc.state.ma.us\/costepma\/index.php\/2022\/07\/12\/hurricane-preparedness-week-in-massachusetts-july-10-16\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Hurricane Preparedness Week&#8221; in Massachusetts, July 10-16"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Mass Emergency Management (MEMA) recently shared a press release amplifying <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mass.gov\/news\/governor-baker-proclaims-july-10-16-as-hurricane-preparedness-week\" target=\"_blank\">Governor Baker Proclaims July 10-16 as \u201cHurricane Preparedness Week\u201d | Mass.gov<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A partial transcription of the Proclamation is copied here and provides persuasive and practical advice for increasing your personal preparedness:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Whereas, Many destructive and deadly tropical storms and hurricanes have caused damage in the Commonwealth; and<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Whereas, Both coastal and inland communities in Massachusetts are at risk of being impacted by powerful tropical cyclones; and <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Whereas, During the Atlantic Hurricane Season, which occurs June 1 through November 30, historically most of the major storms that have impacted New England have occurred between August and October; and <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Whereas, The high winds, storm surge and inland flooding associated with these storms threaten the lives and property of our citizens; and<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Whereas, The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency and more than 70 Emergency Support Function organizations continue to prepare for disasters such as hurricanes; and<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Whereas, Government cannot address hurricane resilience alone &#8211; every community, organization, individual and family has a role to play in preparedness to safeguard lives, protect property, and mitigate impacts; and<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Whereas, The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency recommends that residents and businesses take important steps to prepare for the next major storm, including learning whether you live or work in a hurricane evacuation zone, developing an emergency plan, building an emergency supply kit, staying informed, preparing homes and businesses; and <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Whereas, All residents of the Commonwealth are urged to take steps to prepare for emergencies and use the preparedness resources at www.mass.gov\/mema\/hurricanes.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Now, Therefore, I, Charles D.
