Training is essential to prepare for and respond effectively to an emergency affecting a cultural heritage organization. The nature of cultural collections requires special measures to ensure their safety and survival. Understanding and mitigating identified risks, preparing an emergency plan, acquiring supplies, practicing salvage techniques, training staff, and networking with first responders and other cultural organizations can reduce risk and protect valuable collections.

Numerous agencies and professional groups offer training sessions in all aspects of emergency preparedness and response. For a list of these entities, please click here.
