Children's Librarian, Everett Public Libraries (Everett)

The Children’s Librarian performs professional acquisition, collection development and maintenance, community outreach and programming.  The work is performed under the general direction of the Library Director. The Children’s Librarian is expected to work 35 hours per week with alternating Saturdays and one evening shift.

1. General Duties- Oversee the operation of a busy, engaging Children’s Room. a. Acquisitions c. Collection development for currency and relevancy including working cooperatively with technical services and circulation. d. Participate as a member of the selection process. e. Assist in policy review and writing as it pertains to children’s services f. Create and maintain a welcoming environment for children and their caregivers g. Keep abreast of trends and emerging technologies in children’s services. h. Routinely evaluate procedures and recommend improvements and modifications. Other duties as necessary including providing coverage for Teen and Adult services.

2. Community Outreach- establishes and maintains good working relationships with community agencies providing services to children and their caregiver’s b. Provides excellent outreach to schools and other educational organizations. c. Enthusiastically participates in community events promoting library services and programs.

3. Programming- a. Creates engaging, educational, developmentally appropriate programming for children. b. Publicizes library programming and services through traditional print media as well as a variety of social media c. Attend library meetings and participate in professional development activities d. Perform related duties in cooperation with other staff and responsibilities as required.


Must have a demonstrated understanding of child development and enjoy working with children, their families and caregivers.

Previous library experience in an automated network required.

MLIS or MLS degree from an ALA accredited institution. Will consider MLIS candidates with substantial progress toward completion of the degree.

Valid MA Driver’s License

Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

Salary range $47,301--$61,279.
