Assistant Youth Services Librarian --Two positions available, Woburn Public Library (Woburn)

The Woburn Public Library seeks a part-time professional librarian to work primarily in the Youth Services Department.  Duties include but are not limited to: assisting patrons in Youth Services areas, providing reader’s advisory services, checking materials in and out, registering new patrons, shelving materials, assisting with programs and activities.  Will be responsible for preparing and presenting  storyhours, craft programs, and other activities for children. Will participate in collection development and maintenance activities.  Will also be asked to cover an adult service desk, when required.

The schedule for this position includes two evenings per week all year and every other Saturday from September to June. The library is closed on Saturdays during the summer.

We currently are housed in a temporary space at 36 Cummings Park in Woburn while our permanent library, a national historic landmark built in 1879, is renovated and expanded. The new library is scheduled to open in March 2019. The new library houses a spacious Children’s Library and the Woburn Public Library’s first Teen Room. This is an exciting time of transition that offers opportunities for new initiatives and innovative services.

Qualifications

●        Master’s degree in Library Science

●        Proven customer service skills with ability to work well with the public and other employees.

●        Previous experience working with children and teens.

●        Excellent  familiarity with children’s literature. 

●        Dependable with excellent attendance demonstrated in previous work experience.

●        Experience in the MLN system preferred.

●        Must be able to stand for several hours, move loaded book carts, and reach shelves with or without ladders/stools.

$25.18/hour 18 hours per week. Pro rated vacation and sick leave.
