Children's Librarian - Weekends & Call In, Belmont Public Library (Belmont)

The Belmont Public Library is seeking a friendly and enthusiastic Children’s Librarian to join our Children’s Room team. The hours include working our weekend rotation and being called on to substitute during staff vacations, sick leave, and other time off. Candidates must be committed to providing a high level of public service, be comfortable working in a busy environment, and enjoy working with children of all ages.


The position will be working at a public service desk that offers both circulation and reference services simultaneously. The Children’s Librarian will assist patrons with readers’ advisory and reference questions, present story times, and help with collection development. Other responsibilities include receiving and evaluating requests for information, searching databases and advising readers regarding appropriate material. The Children’s Librarian maintains current knowledge of children’s literature and related library programs and services as well as technology development and general library automation and
electronic services provided through the library networks.

This position will remain open until filled. 

Qualifications

Qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school with one year of public library and children’s programming experience. Knowledge of children’s literature, automated library systems, principles and practices of library work and information technology required. Strong customer services skills, experience with children’s programming, flexibility, excellent communication skills, and a positive attitude are highly desired.

This position is part time, weekends and on call with a starting hourly rate of $27.56 and is not eligible for benefits. The schedule will include two Sundays per month from 1:00 to 5:00 and regular Saturdays throughout the July and August from 9:00 to 1:00 as well as being on call to fill in during staff vacations and sick leave.
