Library Director, Ashby Free Public Library (Ashby)

We are searching for a welcoming individual with excellent communication and customer-service skills with a desire to develop and grow Library programs and services.  This professional Librarian will provide services for all ages, while supervising the staff, volunteers, programs, and operations of the library.

The Library Director will report to the Board of Trustees.  This salaried position is 25 hours per week, including 2 evenings and 4 hours on Saturday.

The Town of Ashby is located in North Central Massachusetts, along the New Hampshire border, approximately 1  hour northwest of Boston.  With roughly 3,200 residents, the town is rural in nature, with a strong sense of community.  Ashby’s public library is located in a beautiful historic building situated directly across from our town common.


Applicant requirements:

·       working knowledge of modern library policies, procedures, methods and practices

·       ability to interpret community interests and needs

·       thoroughly familiar with basic reference sources and research techniques, including database and online reference sources, internet, computer applications

·       familiar with a Library circulation system - We use CWMARS

·       comfortable with MS Word, MS Excel and Google applications suite

·       prior library and supervisory experience

·       be energetic, self-motivated, and able to simultaneously manage multiple tasks

·       Completion of the four-course Library Director training from MBLC is a plus

Compensation is $25,000 – $28,600, commensurate with experience.  A partial benefits package is available.
