Assistant Library Director and Technology Librarian, Ipswich Public Library (Ipswich)

Chiefly responsible for both technology and personnel, this position assists the Library Director in administrative, technical and supervisory areas of the entire library operation following established library procedures and guidelines. Works closely with the Library Director on executing the strategic plan, and in administering library policies and programs. Represents the library in the local community, and in professional library collaborations.

Provides leadership and technical expertise in the selection, development, and implementation and maintenance of library information technologies. Provides for technical support and training for staff and patrons.

Coordinates staffing to meet public service goals, either directly or by delegation to library department heads, and prepares payroll. Acts as liaison between library staff and the Town Human Resources office. Works with Director on planning personnel changes and is consulted by Director on staff appointments. Oversees all aspects of the library’s volunteer program.

The Ipswich Public Library, a member of the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium, is a vital community hub with strong, established support and funding, and has seen exponential growth in attendance and programming in recent years. 

Qualifications

A Master’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited graduate library school of recognized standing with three to five years’ experience in a library supervisory and/or administrative position. Good knowledge of professional library principles, methods, techniques and procedures. Demonstrated understanding of systems analysis and planning, including Internet/WWW applications. Demonstrated knowledge of standard office software.  Good understanding of computer hardware and software. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with library staff, patrons, outside vendors and other Town departments. Strong communication and public speaking skills.
