Assistant Supervisor Patron Experience: Programming and Marketing Specialist, Framingham Public Library (Framingham)

37.5 hours/week; two evenings and alternate Fridays/Saturdays required

The Framingham Public Library, a recognized leader in collaborative programming, located 20 miles
west of Boston with a 53,000 sq. ft. Downtown Main Library, a 17,000 sq. ft. branch library, and a
Bookmobile, seeks a dynamic and energetic Patron Experience: Programming and Marketing
Specialist with the creativity, flexibility, and enthusiasm to join our Patron Experience team in
delivering exceptional library services focused on access and equity.

 Position Purpose:
Serves as a dynamic member of the Patron Experience Department for the Framingham Public
Library, the premier resource for free inquiry, creative enrichment, and lifelong learning.
Serves as a liaison between Patron Experience and Community and Outreach by contributing
to and supporting marketing, merchandising, and programming. Promotes and provides
exemplary customer service to the vibrant and diverse population in the city of Framingham.
Exemplifies innovation, flexibility, collegiality, and enthusiasm for all aspects of library
customer service. May perform tasks at the Main Library, Branch, or Bookmobile as necessary.

Essential Functions:

▪ Performs an array of circulation duties, and provides a warm, welcoming, and accessible patron
experience for all library users.
▪ Issues library cards, checks materials in and out, collect fees and fines; provides information
about library services, policies and procedures. Provides directional information.
▪ Protects confidentiality of patron records according to library policy and Mass General Law.
▪ Facilitates interchange of materials between the Main Library and Branch
▪ Promotes and provides exemplary customer service to staff and public. Assists supervisors in
staff training. Resolves patron circulation concerns and responds in a positive and flexible
manner; Refers issues to Library Administration as required.
▪ Under the direction of the Head of Patron Experience and in line with library goals, fosters
teamwork and partnership between departments and among library staff. Welcomes staff
suggestions and initiatives. In the absence of the Head of Patron Experience, assumes
responsibility of managing daily operations.
▪ Assists patrons in borrowing and using all library materials and accessing digital resources. Gives
directional information. Provides information on library policies and procedures.
▪ Participates in collection development and the maintenance of an attractive, current array of
library materials.
▪ Participates in shelf reading and weeding.
▪ Creates attractive displays to showcase and highlight library materials of all kinds.
▪ Develops, facilitates, and supervises monthly programming, including Brown Bag Lunch
presentation programs. Researches program ideas; plans and executes events, and writes copy
for event flyers.
▪ Supports execution of programming as needed and assists outside groups in meeting rooms
when necessary.
▪ Provides Reader’s Advisory and secondary reference. May plan and lead book discussions.
▪ Assumes responsibility for the Main Library as necessary.
▪ Accurately collects and maintains library statistics as required for the ARIS report or requested
by Library Administration.
▪ Participates on Marketing Committee and other Library committees and working groups.
▪ Monitors safety of the library facility for employees and the public. Responds appropriately to
emergencies and keeps Library Administration informed of any problematic situation.
▪ Represents the library to city, local, network, and other organizations as directed or required.
▪ Follows safe work practices.
▪ Performs related duties as assigned.

Job Environment:
Work is performed primarily in an office environment with normal office noise and traffic.

Bachelor’s degree; two or more years’ experience in library services preferred, including
supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which
provides the following knowledge, ability and skills:

● Integrated Library Systems (ILS), Innovative Sierra preferred
● Library procedures, including database searching and interlibrary loan
● Microsoft Office and Google Suite
● Marketing and programming
● Exhibit humor, tact, flexibility, and initiative
● Enthusiastically lead and motivate staff
● Learn new software and hardware quickly
● Embrace change and contribute to the overall mission of the library
● Exemplary customer service skills
● Supervisory and leadership skills
● Working in a fast-paced environment
● Graphic design
● Familiarity with Spanish or Portuguese desirable
