Library Associate, Auburn Public Library

Participates in all aspects of using the Library’s automated system, including, but not limited to, circulation, maintenance, public access catalog, acquisitions, and resource sharing.

This is a 37.5 hour per week position. Requires staffing the main circulation desk, reference desk, or children’s reference area at least 20 hours per week as determined by the Director. Will normally involve working at least one night per week and one Saturday per month to support the needs of the Library operating hours. No Sundays. 

The applicant should have experience with purchase orders, cash handling and reporting, basic bookkeeping, and be detail oriented and able to meet deadlines. Other duties as appropriate to a Library Associate position at the Auburn Public Library may be assigned by the Director or her delegate.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred, as well as at least two years of full-time experience working with various technologies in a library or other dynamic service-oriented environment. Although desirable, library experience is not required. We will train an otherwise qualified candidate for circulation and other responsibilities.  

High school graduate or Associates Degree may be considered for those with extensive experience with various technologies and enthusiasm for flexibility and learning new protocols.

Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with all staff, management, and other stakeholders.  An aptitude for dealing diplomatically, enthusiastically, patiently, and consistently with the public, incorporating an outstanding public service demeanor that upholds confidentiality, integrity, and discretion is essential. The ability to understand, follow, and communicate detailed oral and written instructions and maintain and provide details relating to the position responsibilities is also vital. The candidate must also be committed to working in a respectful, team-oriented environment; uphold confidentiality and privacy of information at all time; and be accountable and dependable.

Technology skills such as Microsoft Word and Excel are highly desirable. Experience with Quicken books and other bookkeeping is not required. Experience working in a municipality is also desirable.

Candidate must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time, lift up to 35 pounds, see and hear at a normal rate, and use equipment related to library tasks.

The position falls within the Local 2936, United Steelworkers, AFL-CIO Collective Bargaining Unit.  The hourly salary is based on Step increases, with an introductory salary range of $16.45 – 18.05. Full benefits are also included.
