Library Clerk, Lakeville Public Library

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Provide direct service and clerical work in connection with circulation, technical services, and related library activities.  Commitment to public service working with children and adults in all aspects of library service.

HOURS: 11-15 hour work week. Monday (10am-4pm), Thursday (2pm-8pm), Saturday (10am-2pm).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all circulation duties using a web based system, registers new patrons, provides basic information referral and services from outside sources. Assists patrons in locating library materials and instructs patrons in use of library equipment such as copier, scanner, online card catalog and other electronic library resources and digital collections, as well as the Internet. Provides directional reference, reader’s advisory services and homework help.  Provides information over the telephone concerning library hours, available materials, museum passes, or materials on loan.

OTHER REQUIRED RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists with cataloging and processes library materials – labels, covers books, etc. Shelves books and maintains general order of library materials. Performs library opening and closing tasks.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: General knowledge of library policies and procedures, including automated circulation systems and information technology. Ability to interact tactfully and appropriately with library patrons of all ages. Good interpersonal and strong organizational skills. Ability to work independently, follow directions and complete projects with minimum supervision. Computer skills – proficiency with word processing, print shop and Internet necessary. Ability to work as a team member, communicate clearly, both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Some college required.  Experience working in public library preferred.
