Assistant Library Administrator, Fall River Public Library (Fall River)
This is a responsible professional position to directly assist the Administrator of Public Library Services. Work
is performed with considerable independence guided with Direction by the Administrator of Public Library
Services, and with conformance to policies of the Library Board of Trustees. Performance is reviewed
periodically by the Administrator of Public Library Services. Work involves the following:
• Responsible for the timely and accurate submission of payroll and bill schedules for approval by the
Library Administrator. Includes the orderly maintenance of related financial records. The Assistant to
the Administrator responsibly accesses and keeps confidential personnel records of the department.
• Under the guidance of the Administrator, coordinates Library events, fulfillment of programming
grant requirements, room reservation booking and maintains a schedule with flexibility to be present
at necessary library programming. Schedule adjustments subject to prior approval by the
Administrator.
• Responsible for E-mail engagement upkeep, posts to social media, necessary press releases, and works
closely with the Administrator to assist in website maintenance/updates.
• In the Administrator’s absence, assists by ensuring there is appropriate interdepartmental coverage
and addresses building or personnel concerns as necessary; follows opening and/or closing procedures
for the building when needed.
• Reports incidents in a timely manner to the administrator in writing and responds with proper
procedures and protocol when necessary - according to city and library policies, in the absence of
the Administrator.
• Covers interdepartmentally during regular scheduled hours occasionally as needed.
• Any related additional tasks and duties as assigned by the Administrator of Public Library Services.
Qualifications
The assistant administrator must be a graduate of an accredited college or university and hold a graduate degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program. The position requires three (3) years of experience in library work; other combinations of professional relevant working experience will be
considered. Ability to work in a direct, supportive position to Administrator as described above; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with municipal officials and the general public; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely orally and in writing; a positive self-driven attitude; a willingness to accept responsibility; and ability to adjust schedule if needed for necessary programming.
