They are opportunities to demonstrate community values in the built environment. <a href=\"https:\/\/mblc.state.ma.us\/programs-and-support\/construction\/index.php\">The Massachusetts Public Library Construction Program<\/a> focuses on functionality and efficiency of library designs, but it\u2019s a fact that inspiring and beautiful buildings are ones that people want to visit again and again.<\/p>\n<p>For a library building, an architectural award is something to celebrate. This year, Massachusetts public libraries have received an unprecedented FIVE awards from the <a href=\"https:\/\/aianewengland.org\/\">American Institute of Architects\u2019 New England Chapter<\/a>, and two of those buildings also received national recognition, receiving awards from the joint committee of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aia.org\/awards\/7241-aiaala-library-building-award\">American Institute of Architects and the American Library Association<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2021 AIA\/ALA Building Awards<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Boston Public Library \u2013 Roxbury Branch \/ Utile, Inc Architecture and Planning<\/li>\n<li>Cambridge Public Library \u2013 Valente Branch \/ William Rawn Associates Architects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2021 AIA New England Design Awards<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Best of the Boston Society of Architects<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>Woburn Public Library \/ CBT Architects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><em>Honor Awards<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>Woburn Public Library \/ CBT Architects<\/li>\n<li>Boston Public Library \u2013 Roxbury Branch \/ Utile, Inc Architecture and Planning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><em>Merit Awards<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>King Open Schools Complex, which includes the Cambridge Public Library \u2013 Valente Branch \/ William Rawn Associates Architects<\/li>\n<li>Eastham Public Library \/ Oudens Ello Architecture<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><em>Citation<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>Norwell Public Library \/ Oudens Ello Architecture<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All of these buildings received funding from the MBLC through the <a href=\"https:\/\/mblc.state.ma.us\/programs-and-support\/construction\/index.php\">Massachusetts Public Library Construction Program<\/a>, and we add our congratulations to all these libraries and their architects.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Lauren Stara, Library Building Specialist at the MBLC Public library buildings are civic hubs and as such, they are often designed to serve as enduring symbols of public good.
