{"id":448,"date":"2018-12-03T13:11:17","date_gmt":"2018-12-03T18:11:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mblc.state.ma.us\/mblc_blog\/?p=448"},"modified":"2020-03-12T10:16:49","modified_gmt":"2020-03-12T14:16:49","slug":"reimagined-wellesley-branch-library-welcomes-librarians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mblc.state.ma.us\/mblc_blog\/2018\/12\/03\/reimagined-wellesley-branch-library-welcomes-librarians\/","title":{"rendered":"Reimagined Wellesley Branch Library Welcomes Librarians"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p><em>By Shelley Quezada, Consultant to the Underserved at the MBLC<\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>On October 29, 2018 staff from seven libraries that received\u00a0 FY19 LSTA grants for <a href=\"https:\/\/mblc.state.ma.us\/programs-and-support\/lsta-grants\/opportunities.php\"><strong><em>Mind in the Making: Supporting Play Spaces in Libraries<\/em><\/strong><\/a> \u00a0convened for training in the beautiful repurposed <a href=\"https:\/\/theswellesleyreport.com\/2018\/11\/sneak-peek-fells-branch-library-gets-an-overhaul\/\">Fells Branch of the Wellesley Public Library.<\/a>\u00a0 In addition to Wellesley, the communities of Bedford, Bourne,\u00a0 Rutland, Shirley, Waltham and Shrewsbury\u00a0 will spend this year expanding opportunities for young children to participate in creative play activities in the library as well as to build, problem solve, think critically and even embrace failure as they become more confident and engaged learners.\u00a0 Under leadership of library director Jamie Jurgensen who applied for a LSTA grant, the library interior features\u00a0 wood replicas of Wellesley\u2019s\u00a0 famous buildings as well as frescos of local flora and fauna that are both a delight to see and touch.<\/p>\r\n<p>The Fells Branch, first opened in 1858 as a one-room schoolhouse, became a branch library in 1923 but recently has been used as a nursery school.\u00a0 Now, thanks to the generosity of the Wellesley Free Library Foundation and the Wellesley Foundation, the newly painted and refurbished branch \u00a0opened\u00a0 to the public on November 17.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" class=\"wp-image-449 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/mblc.state.ma.us\/mblc_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Shelley-Wellesley-Blog2.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mblc.state.ma.us\/mblc_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Shelley-Wellesley-Blog2.jpg 320w, https:\/\/mblc.state.ma.us\/mblc_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Shelley-Wellesley-Blog2-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The LSTA training featured Alli Leake, Director of Education from the Discovery Museum in Acton who maintains a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoveryacton.org\/play-matters-blog\">Play Matters Blog<\/a>&#8221;
