Technical Services Librarian, Everett Public Libraries (Everett)

 The Everett Public Libraries are in search of a seasoned Technical Services Librarian to join our team. The primary responsibility of the Technical Services Librarian is to facilitate seamless access to library resources for both patrons and staff. This entails efficiently receiving and cataloging items in accordance with NOBLE policies. Experience with both direct orders and orders made through Acquisitions/EDI modules of an Integrated Library System (ILS) is highly desirable.

Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Technical Services Librarian directs and supervises the work of other library staff and volunteers. Additionally, this role may involve undertaking circulation, reference, and other assigned duties as needed. We are seeking an individual who is dedicated to enhancing the discovery and accessibility of our library collections while collaborating effectively with colleagues to meet the needs of our community.

Qualifications

- Oversees and participates in the cataloging of all libraries' materials using network databases.

- Maintains library catalog database in conjunction with NOBLE network staff. Establishes and maintains library-wide consistency in cataloging. Generates relevant reports as needed. 

- Maintain cataloging standards, authority control, and metadata quality to ensure accurate and consistent access to library collections. 

- May participate in collection development, including selection and purchasing materials. 

- Represents Everett Public Libraries at technical services-related meetings at NOBLE. 

- Oversees the processing and repair of physical collections. 

- Staffs the information and service desks when needed: providing reference and circulation services. Provide technical assistance and user support to library patrons and staff, including troubleshooting catalog access issues and assisting with research inquiries. 

- Keeps current in library and information literacy trends, participates in professional development activities.

- May develop and implement effective and efficient policies and procedures to maximize library resources. 

- Works an evening per week, and a weekend on a rotating basis. Evergreen experience is preferred.

- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Entrance Requirements:

- Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution and four years of professional experience in a networked public library with at least two years of cataloging and supervisory experience. 

- Demonstrated experience with original cataloging, metadata management, and classification standards. Demonstrated proficiency in creating bibliographic records for unique or non-standard materials according to established cataloging standards such as MARC, RDA, and AACR2.

- Familiarity with other metadata standards, such as EAD, METS, MODS is a plus.

- Proficiency in integrated library systems (ILS) and library management software, specifically Evergreen, is very desirable.

- Working experience of library services, practices and techniques, both technical services and public service, as well as working knowledge of library automated systems and personal computers essential.

- Proficiency in Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish or Haitian Creole is a plus.

- Demonstrated knowledge of cataloging principles and procedures. 

- Strict attention to detail and accuracy.

- Proficiency with online databases and office applications.

- Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner. Excellent customer service skills essential.

- Excellence in oral and written communication.

- Ability to make decisions in an environment with time and resource constraints. Prioritization of tasks. Strong Analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates, associates, city officials and the general public.

- Excellent interpersonal skills, positive attitude, flexibility and creativity necessary.

- Commitment to excellence required.

- Demonstrated proficiency in current and emerging technologies and their applications. Flexibility to adapt to constantly changing technology necessary.
