Reference Librarian, Burlington Public Library (Burlington)

The Burlington Public Library takes pride in the innovative services, programs and materials that it provides to its community.  Conveniently located 14 miles northwest of Boston and easily accessible from Route 95/128 and Route 3, Burlington is home to 26,000 residents and a robust collection of businesses.  This vibrant community welcomes approximately 150,000 people per day to work, eat, and shop.  Reporting to the Head of Reference, this position supports a busy Reference Department through collection development, programming, and customer service for an institution that prides itself on innovative and robust services for its community. 

Major duties include, but are not limited to:

Assists patrons with information requests and performs detailed research work utilizing print sources, subscription databases, and the Internet.
Participates in the building, evaluation, and selection of the adult collection.
Develops and presents programs and training workshops to meet the needs of the public.
Acts as Librarian-in-Charge in the absence of the Library Director, Assistant Director and Head of Reference, usually during evening or weekend hours.
Performs technology related tasks including troubleshooting hardware and software issues.

This is a full time position, 35 hours per week.  Hours are negotiable and will include evenings and/or weekends.  Opportunity to work Sundays and summer Saturdays as overtime shifts.

Anticipated start date is June 3, 2024.

This is a union position within the Burlington Municipal Employees Association bargaining unit.  Salary is within Grade 9 of the BMEA contract.    Pay range starts at $34.08/hr with the opportunity to advance to a max rate of $47.66/hr through annual increases, and includes comprehensive and generous benefits.

Qualifications

Recommended minimum qualifications include:

Masters of Library Science degree
2 years of library experience, including experience in reference services
Computer skills and flexibility to adapt to constantly changing technology
Excellent customer service skills
