Senior Youth Services Librarian, Lynnfield Public Library (Lynnfield)

The Lynnfield Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic and creative person to join our team full-time in our Youth Services department. This is a position for a self-starter who loves working with kids and serving the public.

Supervision Received:  
Works under the general supervision of the Head of Youth Services.  Duties are generally performed on own initiative in accordance with established procedures, referring unusual problems to the supervisor.

Duties/Responsibilities:
-Assists in planning and conducting children’s and teen programs including story times on a regular basis. 
-Assists in reference and reader’s advisory services for children and teens.
-Participates in collection development of all juvenile materials with the Head of Youth Services.
-Works as part of the social media and marketing team, including, but not limited to, creating and posting content on social media, and creating promotional materials for programs.
-Creates and updates displays for the Children’s room on an ongoing basis to promote various themes and/or topics.
-Prepares and organizes materials for circulation. This may include shelving, shelf reading, shifting, labeling of collection, or weeding.
-Performs a regular rotation at the adult circulation desk during night and weekend shifts.
-Upholds patron privacy laws and confidentiality policies.
-Other projects and duties as assigned.

Schedule:
35 hours per week, including one scheduled evening per week and one scheduled Saturday every four weeks on the adult circulation desk.

Qualifications

-Bachelor’s Degree and public service experience with children or an equivalent combination of education and experience, to provide the required knowledge and ability. 
-Knowledge of library principles, methods, materials and practices. 
-Ability to work independently, with care to detail for programming, collection maintenance, and circulation procedures.
-Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to work well with others,  including serving the general public.
-Working knowledge of Google Workspace, Canva, and/or Evergreen is preferred.

Physical Demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stand, walk, sit, use hands to grasp, operate, or control tools, and hear and talk.  The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch.  Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and office equipment.  The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, move quickly between checkout stations, and navigate all areas of the Library.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job.
