Scope

Massachusetts Library System Announcement List

mls-announcements is the list used by the Massachusetts Library System to make official announcements to members libraries across the Commonwealth.

Traditional Regional Lists and the "allregions" List

In 2010, the six Massachusetts regional library systems merged to form the Massachusetts Library System. Most of the lists supporting the regions stayed active during a transition period. As of December, 2012, with the exception of the Western Massachusetts list, wmrls, they have now closed.

Library staff from all Massachusetts libraries (including non-members) are encouraged to exchange ideas, post questions or vacancies, announce surplus items for sale, or use the mailing lists for other library-related purposes. Commercial announcements and advertisements are not permitted.

The allregions list is used for posting messages that are of statewide interest only. This list is under evaluation, but will continue to function until further notice.

Topical Lists

MBLC hosts a number of topical lists, including MASSYAC (Massachusetts Youth and Children), the Public Library Construction Discussion List and others.  A complete listing can be found here.

MASSYAC is an unmoderated discussion group for staff providing Young Adult and Children's Services in libraries in the Commonwealth of Masschusetts.
