COSTEP MA Exec Board invited interested cultural institutions to complete the following:
- 1. Subscribe to our Email list.
- 2. Create a listing in the Mass Emergency Management Agency’s Cultural Heritage Facilities Survey (arcgis.com).
- 3. Write a short note (at least 1 paragraph) to COSTEP MA about your institution’s disaster risks and how the disaster kit may help. To post it on our blog, photographs welcome.
- 4. Join at least 1 COSTEP MA Exec Board meeting to say hello.
Another awardee that satisfied the requirements is the Museum of African American History – Boston | Nantucket (maah.org)! Thank you and Congrats! Below is their note about their disaster risks and how the Kit may help.
Their Collection Manager writes:
The Boston Campus for the Museum of African History, Boston and Nantucket consists of two historic sites, the Abiel Smith School and the African Meeting House. The Abiel Smith School (1835, pictured below) is the oldest public school in the United States built for the sole purpose of educating African American children. There are two exhibit gallery spaces in the Smith School, one on the first floor and one on the second floor. There are no collections stored on-site so if there are collections objects in the building, they are on-view in an exhibit. In the past, the building has experienced water leaks from the roof during winters when we had a number of snowstorms back to back (such as the winter of 2015). The Disaster Recovery Kit allows MAAH to be better prepared for responding to similar emergencies in the future.
