Description

Elizabeth Poe, the mother of Edgar Allan Poe, was a singing actress active in the United States from the late 1790s to 1811. This program, built around the music she sang & material from some of the plays in which she acted, surveys her crowded life & career (a life which included nearly 300 roles & mothering three children). The poignant saga of one young working woman's journey in an equally young United States. Program presented at Pennsylvania Historical Association conference, 1998.
