The play tells the traditional story of Ahab and his vengeful pursuit of the white whale with a parallel modern story of a young urban crew's quest to destroy a cocaine drug lord that has wounded them. This adaptation has sparked renewed interest in Herman Melville's great American novel among students and educators throughout the region and is attracting national and international attention.
Moby Dick: Then and Now is the centerpiece of a teachers study guide developed through the Project New Media Literacies program at MIT and the University of Southern California and featured in a new book Reading in a Participatory Culture.
