The cinquain is a simple, five line poetry form that can be edited and rewritten to produce a truly extraordinary work. Anyone can write a cinquain, which is based on parts of speech. Once a student has begun their poem, they are encouraged to edit the language and to turn the simple structure into a story poem of greater depth and significance. This workshop runs for two hours. One hour is used for
composing the poem, and the second hour is applied to creating a five page, accordion fold book that illustrates the cinquain. Children learn about editing and effective language, as well as illustration concepts for effective visual communication.
