Calvin Coolidge was the 30th President of the U.S. (1923-29). He was a native of Plymouth, VT, but graduated from Amherst College, and became a lawyer in Northampton, MA.
Coolidge rose up in MA. politics from state rep., mayor, state senator, Lt. Governor, to Governor (1919-21). He was Vice President under Warren Harding, and succeeded the latter upon his death in 1923.
The narrated slide program shows scenes of VT places associated with his early years, his career in MA, and his Presidency. It tries to strike a balance between total disparagement of Coolidge by liberal historians, and near - worship of him by conservative ones.
The slides and anecdotal narrative serve to make what might seem a boring topic of much more interest to audiences.
The performer is the author of two books and a bibliography about Coolidge, and has collected material about him for two decades. He was one of the speakers at the 1998 conference about Coolidge at the JFK Library in Boston.
