How to Draw Manga Workshop

Crafts

Audience Age

Description

Manga is an extremely popular style of Japanese cartooning. Brought to the US in the 1980's but made a smash hit by 90's television shows like Pokemon and Sailor Moon, Anime and Manga is now everywhere!

In my workshops, I teach kids the basics of drawing a Manga character. We start with the face, learning both the front and profile view. I throw in several advanced tips, for older students, but the core of the lesson even the little ones can follow. This program is a great multi-level activity for all ages.

After the face we move onto the body; this time drawing both front, side, and hind views of our character. We learn about basic human anatomy and how to pose a character, as well as a thing or two about story-telling and the secrets of the cartooning process.

Finally, we finish off the workshop with a quick lesson in hands and feet. Some of the most difficult parts of the body to draw become simple when broken down into easy to follow steps that even the professionals use in their daily practices.

I am a classically trained, working illustrator. Not only do I know cartooning styles, but also how to draw realism from life. Whatever questions the kids throw at me, I have always had an answer and a way to relate what they've learned back to other modes of self-expression.

Please email me for availability. I work full time 9-5, M-F, but can teach workshops in the evenings and on weekends. For very specail events sometimes I can arrange to teach during the day. This is a wonderful workshop for hard-to-please teenagers, anime clubs, or after-school programs.
