Description

This multimedia lecture performance traces the rise of the Motown Sound--The Sound of Young America(R)--during the early 1960s. Motown was--and still is--embedded in the fabric of American life. It was the music that inspired a generation. It brought people together--black and white, young and old, rich and poor--more effectively than any other music during a turbulent time in American history. Using archival video and audio clips, I tell the story of how Motown and its artists broke down racial, social, and gender barriers--opening the doors for the young African American artists who would follow.
