The Old Howard Troupe - A Night at the Old English Music Hall

Program Category
Music

Audience Age
9 - 109

Description

The Old Howard Troupe are an extraordinary league of eight veteran artistes devoted to bringing the experience of the Old English Music Hall to your town! Members of the Troupe wear over-the-top Victorian-style stage costumes typical of the golden age of the Music Hall and perform the hits of the music hall stage, with and without piano accompaniment.

Roll up, roll up, hear the entertainment! This is not a dry lecture or a workshop, it's a SHOW! Our vintage ensemble style features some old favorites of the music hall stage - you will recognize some of them! We have rousing chorus songs, songs that might make you blush, and bittersweet but tender songs that tug at the heartstrings. There's literally something for everyone in our fast-paced and fun performance. Have no fear, our steadfast Chairman will keep things moving along smoothly with his keen wit and saucy comments, and you will be delighted by the Professor’s smooth handling of the piano keys!

The members of The Old Howard Troupe love to bring the Music Hall experience to life in great old music hall stages, smaller church halls, historical societys, museum, and libraries that have stage or performance areas. We love to share these songs and we know you’ll have a great time at our show!

Fee
$800.

Our fee can be negotiable based on length of performance. This is our fee for a longer performance of two 50-minute sets. Please contact us to discuss if you are interested in hosting a performance!

Group Size
50-60 without amplification, 60+ with amplificatio

Program Length
60 minutes (short program) to 120 minutes (long program)

Facility Requirements

We would need a stage or an area that is large enough for six people to sit in chairs across in a row, as well as a space on one side for the Chairman and his table and on the other side for the keyboard/piano.

If you do not have a tuned piano at hand we will bring a keyboard (in which case we will need electricity nearby). If the seating for the hall is larger than 60 seats we will need two microphones on stands as well as a monitor, and electricity.

We would appreciate the opportunity to sell Old Howard Troupe kazoos for $3 as we do not have a recording yet.

I am an experienced grantwriter and I'm happy to write up a Cultural Council grant to support all or part of our performance fee.

Comments

What is our audience saying about us?  “The Old Howard Troupe filled a hall with one of our biggest crowds since Pete Seeger and got everyone singing heartily! Thank you for bringing the sounds, the sights, and the conviviality of the Savoy a hundred years ago to our community last week.”  - Mike Livingston, Folklore Society of Greater Washington (DC)
