Description

Laura Ingalls Wilder is a stubborn, spirited little girl, eagerly exploring all the wonders of the prairie. After a day of family chores, she revels in her father's folklore and listens carefully to its messages to keep her safe in the big woods.

When her family ventures westward, she befriends the Native Americans, and then begins her first schooling, learning to create vivid pictures with her words. The brutal winters and locust attacks put her family to the test, but they work together and prevail, and children will join in their celebratory dance.

As Laura matures and becomes a writer, she will share her rich, descriptive writing techniques, which are grade-level appropriate and complement those taught in classrooms today. Her engrossing tales of the frontier will inspire students to use their skills and imagination to journal their own experiences and write their own creative stories.
