"Hey, Mr. Spaceman: Exploring Space in Music" - a talk/performance related to space themes in music, for adults. A wide variety of musical genres will be included, such as classical (Holst's The Planets, the use of Ligeti's music in 2001: A Space Odyssey), rock (David Bowie, The Byrds, Elton John, The Killers, Paul McCartney, etc.), jazz (Sun Ra to Return to Forever), funk (Parliament/Funkadelic, Billy Preston), new wave (Duran Duran, Flock of Seagulls), children's (Jonathan Coulton, Secret Agent 23 Skidoo, Jonathan Sprout), singer-songwriter (Mary Chapin Carpenter, Beth Nielsen Chapman). Music will be presented through recorded examples as well as live performance.
