Description

If you were born between 1946 and 1964, the baby boom years, and are finding it increasingly difficult to land an interview, let alone a job, you are encountering the reality of ageism, the most subtle form of job discrimination.  Job seekers as young as forty are being screened out by employers.  It is possible, however, to break through “the gray ceiling” — if you know how to strategize your job search.  The secret to success is to minimize your age and maximize your value.

This webinar provides you with twenty timely tips on how to position yourself in the marketplace, compete with recent college graduates, prepare a contemporary resume, sit for an interview with a person most likely one to three decades younger than yourself, and, ultimately, land a dream job.

This webinar is divided into two segments:  lecture and question- and-answer period. The topics covered include getting around age discrimination, changing negatives into positives, maintaining energy and enthusiasm, and remaining confident no matter how lengthy the job search.

Bio in a Nutshell:  Motivational speaker and author Constance Hallinan Lagan (NY) inspires people to live lives in accordance with their inner calling.  Currently working on a new book, The Magnitude and Simplicity of Life, Connie remains faithful to her own inner voice, and, in doing so, makes others aware of their own inner spirit and empowers them to take “right action” to live in peace, happiness and harmony, whether they are seeking to engage in an entrepreneurial pursuit (Business Development), advance their career (Career Advancement), or enrich their lives through personal growth (Personal Enrichment). Connie’s programs have been sponsored by corporations, government agencies, professional associations, non-profits, women’s groups, healthcare facilities, financial entities, labor unions, churches, support groups, colleges, universities and libraries nationwide. Her byline appears in more than sixty publications. Librarians in Arkansas, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Vermont, Wisconsin and Wyoming have booked Connie’s webinars.

A complete bio, lists of sponsors and additional webinar titles and descriptions are available, upon request.

How it works: The Library hosts the webinar (sets up the meeting and sends the link to me, handles the waiting room and admitting patrons, opens the meeting, introduces me at the start of webinar, passes along chat room questions to me when I request them at the end of the webinar, addresses any tech issues, and ends the meeting). I present the topic "live" (not a recording) and respond to questions. Recording, livestreaming and/or posting the webinar to social media is not permitted. Posting a notice of the upcoming event is fine.
