Fiddle and Banjo Roots of American Traditional Music

Program Category
Music

Audience Age
9 - 90

Description

The program educates listeners on the roots of American traditional music, via stories, songs, and tunes. We focus on building community through music and discuss the origins of the fiddle and banjo coming together in the Southern Appalachian area of the USA. It’s a story of immigration and community that is as relevant today as it was 100 years ago.

What you will learn:

o History of the banjo and fiddle in the United States
o Different regional fiddle and banjo styles from Appalachia to New England
o Learn to recognize the traditional old time style of music
o Resources for further study
o Try out the fiddle, banjo, and guitar!

We could also do a full 1 hour concert in addition to the program listed above.

Anne Rouillard (fiddle, vocals) and Chris Reckling (banjo, guitar, vocals) form the Long Lost String Band, a Massachusetts duo exploring old time fiddle tunes and early country songs.
