Description

This 45-minute, Sing Me A Story workshop is for caregivers (and children) who wish to learn more about how singing, music, and movement support early literacy skills and how to incorporate more music into each day. Led by creator, performer, and teaching artist, Emilia Dahlin, caregivers are supported to engage in singing and music more, employing a free, effective, and powerful method for supporting the whole child. This is done through a storytime format with singing, movement, games, and reading aloud.

Caregivers will come away with a greater understanding of how singing and music impacts the wellbeing, development, and early literacy skills of children 0-6 years. They will explore how to employ more singing in their day-to-day and practice several songs, rhymes and games they can employ on their own right away.

The workshop includes:

-The science of how singing supports early literacy skills
-Circle songs/games
-Pairings of books and songs
-Ways to incorporate rhythm into reading
-Sensory scarves and rhythm stick songs/chants
-A printed resource for caregivers for inspiration moving forward

(A poster for library outreach is also provided in advance)
