HOST A WORKSHOP FOR YOUR STAFF AND COMMUNITY: Vision: Sing Me A Story is a professional development workshop for early childhood educators and children’s librarians who wish to strengthen, enliven, and widen their learning spaces with song. Led by creator and facilitator, Emilia Dahlin, educators are trained to utilize singing and music more, employing a free, effective, and powerful method for supporting the whole child. The Method: A library hosts a workshop for their staff and invite early educators in the community, allowing one workshop to have a larger impact in the community at large. Desired Outcomes: Librarians, Educators and professional caregivers will come away with a greater understanding of how singing and music impacts the wellbeing, development, and early literacy skills of children 3-6 years. They will gain skills for leading and employing more singing in their learning spaces and practice several songs, games, and paring of books and songs that they can employ in their own work right away. The workshop includes: - The science of singing in our bodies and brains - Skill-building in leading songs - Pairings of books and songs - Considerations for working with diverse groups - Exploring the voice (technically and emotionally) - Embodied play - How singing supports early literacy skills - How singing supports social emotional learning - Access to digital resources for ideas and inspiration moving forward. Included for both online and in-person: -Workshop facilitation -Contact hours form -Planning Support -Pre-survey and evaluation -Posters (with your logo) -Digital resource library -Registration THE PROCESS: The hosting organization and Emilia work together to create an MOU that outlines logistical details and responsibilities of both parties. Beforehand: Participants will register and fill out a survey that will give Emilia an idea of the knowledge, skills, and comfort they already possess so that the workshop can be tailored to needs. This also aids in the assessment of the efficacy of the workshop. After: Participants receive a workshop evaluation and two online resources to support their practice going forward. Participants will receive .3 contact hours. CEUs are also a possibility.
