Jazz isn't just music, it's a lifestyle! It has its own slang, for example. 'Cats' use phrases like 'the eagle has flown"--phrases the average person doesn't understand. The jazz arena has its own rules and thus makes for some interesting stories. Dan, in this enlivening presentation, shares stories about jazz from the past and the present, making the jazz world come to life.
a. HISTORICAL ANECDOTES: Example: Why Poppa Jo Jones (from the Count Basie band) threw a cymbal at a young Charlie Parker?
b. PERSONAL (CURRENT) ANECDOTES: Example: In the NYC jazz club Sweet Basil, a 19 yr old Dan Faulk had famous drummer Art Blakey walk up to him and ask him out of nowhere 'Where is your horn? You're playing on the next tune!'
c. (If desired, Dan performs solo or with ensemble to illustrate the lecture.)
