On-Call Reference Librarian / Substitute Librarian pool, Springfield City Library (Springfield)

Provide reference, reader's advisory, and technology assistance to library patrons in person or by phone or email. May cover other duties of librarians as well. Placements may be at Central Library or any of the Springfield City Library's eight branches. Placements may be in service areas working with children, teens, or adults.

This is a great opportunity to work in a progressive, growing library system, gain experience, and contribute your knowledge while learning from your colleagues. Many of our on-call librarians have been hired for part-time and full-time positions here at the library, while others enjoy continuing to serve the community after retirement.

Assignments may be for 4 to 8 hours a day, filling in for staff vacancies or vacation and sick leave. 

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and completion of an American Library Association accredited Master of Library Science required.


Two or more years of experience in a library environment preferred. Bilingual skills in English and Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, Arabic, Somali, or other community languages are desirable.
