Library Director, Lee Public Library (Lee, NH)

The Trustees of the Lee NH Public Library are seeking a motivated, skillful, and energetic professional to fill an important leadership and management position to serve our small, rural community located adjacent to the UNH community and the thriving NH seacoast area. 

This leader is responsible for all aspects of developing the library as one of the principal focal points of the town, working collaboratively with other departments to define and bring to life materials, programs, and spaces in support of engaging all of Lee’s residents from infants to seniors. This leader seeks to improve organizational performance while providing leadership, vision, and direction for sustaining and improving the library to meet the needs of the residents including development and implementation of strategic initiatives and long-range plans.


·         Develops partnerships with inter departmental personnel and community leaders facilitating cross departmental programs, themes, marketing, and communication

·         Develops communication strategies ensuring all residents are informed of activities and library capabilities

·         Has ultimate responsibility for the daily operations of the library including personnel and financial management, purchasing, collection development, programming, and community relations

·         Recruits, hires, trains, and manages all aspect of engagement with employees and volunteers including record keeping and performance reviews

·         Drafts, reviews, and presents the annual budget to the advisory budget committee and Board of Selectman

·         Adheres to standard accounting principles agreed to by the Treasurer of the Trustees and the town Auditors

·         Pursues grants, awards, and other non-operational monies on behalf of the library keeping diligent records, and timely responses

Attends to the completion of regular maintenance and cleaning procedures of the interior and exterior spaces

·         Takes opportunities for continuous improvement and stays current in new technologies ensuring the library is driving innovative and creative solutions to engage the public

·         Attend evening meetings as required (seasonal Budget presentation, monthly Trustee meetings, etc.)


·         Five years of experience as a librarian or work in the field of Library Science including personnel management and expertise in library software systems

·         Master of Library Science or Master of Library and Information Science preferred

·         Proficient in Microsoft Office applications 

·         Experience using Quick Books application

·         Excellent written and communication skills 

·         Knowledge of town and state laws and practices a plus
