Library Assistant, Lanesborough Public Library (Lanesborough)

LIBRARY ASSISTANT:

DUTIES:
 include greeting patrons  and performing all circulation desk activities (check-in and out, searching online system and placing holds for patrons etc), answering phone calls, assisting patrons with library resources and technology, and answering directional and other basic questions. Duties also include assisting with collection maintenance, including shelving, shelf reading, cleaning, emptying book drop and searching for items in the collection. Will help process and prepare new materials for circulation. Basic cleaning and disinfecting  on a daily basis. The ideal candidate will be friendly, flexible, dependable, and detail-oriented. All staff are required to participate in in-service training and continuing education opportunities. 

QUALIFICATIONS:
Computer experience/comfort level
Strong organizational skills
Willing/able to learn use of the current library technology
Excellent communication skills via telephone, email, and in-person
Ability to help patrons in use of the internet, public computers, and online library
resources
Ability to interact with patrons of all ages, backgrounds, and level of
understanding of library services
Ability to work independently and without supervision 
 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities
to perform essential functions.)

Able to guide patrons to materials throughout the library
Ability to lift up to 15 lbs from the floor
Ability to reach above one’s head to shelve or retrieve items from upper shelves

HOURS:
This is a part-time position with no benefits- with the exception of
earned/prorated sick time.
Average from 10-13 hours per week, plus occasional substitution for staff
absences.
Evenings and some Saturday hours required.
