Job Details

Library Director, Harwich Port Library (Harwich)

Harwich Port Library is a private non-profit free public library, founded in 1923 and operating at our location in Harwich Port, MA since 1925. Open Mondays and Fridays, the library provides well-reviewed fiction and non-fiction books to year-round and seasonal residents and visitors in a cordial and inviting environment.

The Library Director is the face of the library, and in many ways its heart and soul, to our patrons and to the community. Our current library director has brought great energy to our library, increased our visibility through social media and through library programming, and is leading our centennial celebrations this summer.  She has focused on building community and is loved by patrons, volunteers and the Board, but is leaving to take a benefited position in another library.

So the Board is seeking our next library director.  In particular we seek a director who also:

·   is passionate about reading, interested in people and able to connect with our patrons;

·   can effectively lead our team of volunteers and work in partnership with the Board to professionally conduct all phases of library operations and planning; and

·   can build the library community and attract new patrons.

We are searching for the right individual whose effectiveness for the library will be matched by their satisfaction and enjoyment working here.  If a part-time unbenefited position is appropriate to your circumstances, we feel you will find it a most rewarding place to work.

The library director should normally be at the library during open hours (Monday and Friday, 9 AM to 4 PM), and occasionally outside of hours as needed. We offer scheduling flexibility for reasonable vacation days and health/personal needs.

In deciding whether to apply, we invite you to visit us at harwichportlibrary.org or on Facebook, call to chat with our library director, or stop by on Monday or Friday to visit.
