Head of Cataloging & Technical Services, Lynnfield Public Library (Lynnfield)

After Lynnfield recently passed an override, The Lynnfield Public Library is looking for a motivated, organized, and creative person to join our collaborative team as a full-time Head of Technical Services. This position plans, organizes, and supervises all aspects of the Technical Services Department. This position also establishes and reviews goals, objectives and procedures concerning material allocation, acquisitions, materials cataloging and database control.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Supervises all acquisitions and serials module functions and procedures including the processing of orders, selection of vendors, payment of invoices and claims handling. Works closely with Administrative Assistant to ensure reconciliation with Town Library Accounts. 
Responsible for original cataloging, copy cataloging, and classification of print and non-print materials using:
AACR2
RDA
LC subject headings
LC classification
MARC books format
Responsible for maintenance of database records:
Inputting records into the database
Correcting existing records
General problem solving
Coordinates processing of all materials, including prioritizing workflow; assures accuracy and completeness of acquisitions and item records in the online catalog.
Responsible for maintaining computers, printers, barcode readers, and receipt printers throughout the library, coordinating with NOBLE PC support staff for help with installation, troubleshooting and upgrading library software and hardware.  Makes recommendations for future information technology purchases to the Director.
Selects both hardcover and paperback fiction, books in audio formats, nonfiction DVDs and TV series for the adult collection.
Performs duties in other library departments and participates in special library projects as needed. Works a weekly evening shift at the Reference Desk and fill in as necessary from four hours per week and one Saturday rotation out of four.
Attends in-house meetings and represents the library on Technical Services matters on a consortium and regional level. Serves as the primary authority on technical matters related to the responsibilities of the position. Implements policy changes for the integrated library system and related services.
Maintains cataloging information and tools.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited school
Minimum of three years to five years of progressive library and supervisory experience
Demonstrated supervisory skills 
Demonstrated organizational ability
Demonstrated good public service orientation
Library of Congress knowledge a plus

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of computer systems and associated software programs, integrated library systems, including online cataloging, serials and acquisitions functions, Office suite, Google Workspace, and the Internet
Thorough knowledge of library procedures, methods and tools 
Thorough knowledge of library science principles and the theory related to Technical Services and Reference Services 
Ability to maintain records and prepare reports 
Ability to speak and write effectively 
Ability to instruct and train others 
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with patrons, vendors and co-workers 
Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with patrons, vendors and co-workers 

Schedule: 35 hours per week, including one scheduled evening per week and one scheduled Saturday every four weeks.
