Interim Library Director, Grafton Public Library (Grafton)

The Town of Grafton, through its elected Board of Library Trustees, is seeking applications for the full-time position of Library Director. The Library Director is responsible for managing, operating, and leading all programs and services of the library in accordance with the policies established by the Trustees.

Following a major library expansion completed in 2021, this is an exciting opportunity to guide the library in its mission of lifelong learning through programs, content, and community outreach. Our ideal candidate will have diverse library experience and a passion for collaborating with our talented staff, engaged community, and dedicated Trustees to reimagine library services in the newly expanded facility.

THE DIRECTOR’S RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

·       Plans, organizes, and manages all aspects of library services, operations, and activities, including material selection, de-selection, and overall collection development, cataloging, circulation, reference, reader’s advisory, programs, and other technical library services.

·       Manages a professional, unionized staff comprising 11 full-time employees, 11 part-time employees, and 5 on-call staff members. 

·       Leads initiatives as directed by the library’s mission statement and long-range plan.

·       Provides visionary leadership to the library staff and fosters a positive and collaborative work environment.

·       Consults and collaborates with the Trustees to develop and manage policies, goals, strategic planning, and budget. Attends monthly Board meetings.

·       Prepares, presents, and manages the Library’s annual operating budget (approximately $1.2M), which includes expenses, equipment, payroll processing, and accounts payable.

·       Oversees building management in coordination with the Library Trustees. 

·       Prepares grant applications and seeks funding for operational and improvement programs.

·       Assists in developing the Annual Operational Budget for the Library. 

·       Serves as liaison to various town, civic, and community organizations, including schools.

·       Supports Friends of the Grafton Public Library for programs and fundraising opportunities.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE:

·       Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, with 3–5 years of experience in library administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

·       Proven experience in library management, including budgeting, staff supervision, and strategic planning. 

·       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with diverse community members.

·       Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within library services.

·       This is a 35-hour-per-week contract position. The Director will be expected to attend evening or weekend programs, events, and meetings as needed.
