Associate Librarian-Circulation, Milford Town Library (Milford)

Performs all duties related to the circulation of library materials. Assists library patrons with requested information and/or directing them to appropriate locations or staff.

Position Duties: 

 Empty book drops and sort returned materials.
 Use an online circulation system (Evergreen) to perform check in and check out of library materials.
 Register new borrowers, issue replacement library cards and update library patron database.
 Pull patron requests from library collection.
 Organize interlibrary loans from other network libraries and maintain the hold shelf. 
 Assist patrons in placing material holds.
 Assist patrons in reserving museum passes and reserving meeting rooms.
 Collect fines and replacement fees.
 Empties cash drawer at close of business into prepared envelopes to be counted.  Fill cash drawer with the next business day starting cash.
 Serve as front line, directing patrons, calls and mail to appropriate departments and staff.
 Assist in the production and display of public relations materials such as bookmarks and flyers.
 Change the location of items in the database.
 Ensures appropriate use of the library, materials, and equipment by the public in accordance with library  policies.
 Maintains and compiles statistics as required.
 Frequently interacts with co-workers and other Town of Milford employees requiring courtesy and tact to maintain effective working relationships. 

16 hours per week. Rotating schedule:

Week 1: Monday 12-4, Tuesday 5-9, Friday 9-1, Saturday 1-5

Week 2: Tuesday 5-9, Wednesday 9-1, Thursday 9-1, Friday 9-1


 

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED with 2 years' experience in an equivalent position, associate’s degree preferred.

General knowledge of library functions. 

Knowledge of computers, including integrated library systems (ILS) systems, databases, and word processing software and spreadsheet applications.

Detail orientated, handles interruptions and responds appropriately to multiple requests. 

Creativity and self-motivation, independent thinking, strong communication skills both verbal and writing.

Flexibility and ability to clarify and resolve problems efficiently.
