Library Services Specialist, Joshua Hyde Public Library (Sturbridge)
Joshua Hyde Public Library in Sturbridge is looking for a Library Services Specialist – someone who is a good communicator, who can ride the waves and is incredibly flexible, likes variety in their work, works well independently and enjoys being an integral part of a fast moving team, pays attention to detail, and has a knack for making patrons of all ages -particularly kids - feel welcome and included, to join our library team full time.
This position assists patrons in use of library services and circulation of materials. Supports and assists the Adult Services, Children’s Librarian, and ILL & Technology librarians in performing their duties. Responsible for the selection, purchasing, cataloging, and budgeting of all adult & children’s AV materials. Responsible for the running of the children’s room and children’s programming in the absence of the Children’s Librarian.
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Catalogs materials using standard, professional cataloging rules. Selects, develops, and maintains the audiovisual collection. Is responsible for the budgeting and purchasing of the audiovisual collections in the adult, YA, and children’s areas. Participates in the weeding of collections. Provides general library circulation services to the public. Utilizes computer resources in both circulation activities and in reference and readers' advisory services.
In conjunction with the Children’s Librarian, plans, develops, and implements children’s programs, including weekly story hours. Assists with special library programs and clubs, and runs children’s programs in the absence of the Children’s Librarian. Responsible for the running of the children’s room in the absence of the Children’s Librarian. Oversees public computer use in the children’s room. Assist juvenile patrons and their parents in book selection, reference and research Services and assists in the preparation, presentation, and budgeting of the Summer Reading Program Plans and assists with displays and publicity
This 35 hour/week position requires 4 weekdays per week and 3 Saturdays per month.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or minimum two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with children's programming and using Evergreen is desired.
