Library Director, Whitman Public Library (Whitman)

The Whitman Public Library is a small public library in a welcoming community approximately 40 minutes south of Boston. We welcome experienced, enthusiastic and friendly candidates to apply for the position of Library Director at our busy library.

The Library Director oversees all aspects of library service and is responsible for the daily operations of the library. Duties include, but are not limited to: Staff management, public relations, fiscal management, policy development and implementation, physical operation of the facility, collection development, meeting with Town personnel on a regular basis and all other operational services needed to provide optimal service to the Library and the community.

The Library Director also acts as the Library’s representative at OCLN network meetings and liaises with all relevant Commonwealth agencies to ensure that the Library is in compliance with state and federal regulations.

The ideal candidate must be comfortable working directly with the public. The ability to multitask and a willingness to perform hands-on library work is essential to the position. The candidate must be a committed team player with a positive, can-do attitude who works well with Library staff.

This position has a typical work week of 35 hours. Additional hours may be required from time to time. One evening shifts per week and one or two Saturdays a month during the school year are required along with attendance at special meetings and programs.

Qualifications

ALA accredited Master of Library Science.

Three to five years progressively responsible experience in public libraries.

Certificate of Professional Librarianship from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
